In the fall of 2021, after years of looking at so many different health and wellness programs, I enrolled in the Health Coach Training Program at the Institute of Integrated Nutrition. The program drew me with its in depth training curriculum that includes over 100 dietary theories. Plus they have an amazing line up of visiting faculty, like Mark Hyman, Andrew Weil, and so many more.
The school known as @nutritionschool on instagram has a rolling enrollment with classes starting once a month. The program is a year long course but there is an option to do the accelerated path which is six months. The 6 month program is basically doing two weeks of work each week to get done in half the time. Below I’ll share which path I selected and my personal thoughts.
If you’re interested in checking out more information on the training program you can use my referral link to download the curriculum guide. Here’s my experience with IIN…
I joined the program in September of 2021, enrolling in the year long program. There was a class that had begun a few weeks earlier but I decided to wait for the October start date. The school has an orientation time before modules open so I was able to dive in and start learning what a health coach was and more details on the modules.
A new module opens up every week that includes videos training and reflection exercises. There is also the health library and career library that open up at certain milestones in the course that are full of additional learning opportunities. I really enjoyed the weekly lessons, the pace was great, and the modules were so inspiring and educational.
IIN creates a class Facebook group for each start date. This means you have the opportunity to discuss topics in a group with other students going through the same course at the same time. I really like this and was able to create some new relationships with fellow students. We even started a study group to collaborate as the course progressed. The downside to the FB group is that the only interaction is on posts put up by the admins. Group members aren’t given access to post freely and bring up topics, we are only allowed to comment on posts. Regardless, it is a good way to meet some people on similar paths.
So about halfway through the class one of my study group members mentioned that she saw IIN was launching a brand new, revised and updated version of the course. We all went and checked it out, including the newly updated syllabus. The new content looked amazing!! I was worried that since I was already halfway through the course that I was stuck. Even though the knowledge I was learning was excellent and totally relevant, I was feeling FOMO. What if there is new cutting edge knowledge shared in the new class that I needed to know?
After reaching out to IIN support I made the decision to transfer to the new course. This meant I had to start over! When I switched to the new course I went with the accelerated course so I could still graduate in about the same time as I had originally planned. The course load for the 6-month version is tough though. So don’t take it on if you can’t find time to stay on top of it.
IIN has a great app that I can use on my phone to work through the modules. I like to listen to the videos while I’m driving to get extra time to think about what the lesson is all about. (The crazy thing is during the summer of 2022 I had a lot of extra time on my hands and I enrolled in a second training course with Functional Diagnostic Nutrition. Check out my review of that course here!)
I’ve have thoroughly enjoyed the course with IIN. It has been a great experience and taught me so much about the wellness space, but also so much about myself!
